Most people associate fleas with pets like cats and dogs, but the reality is that fleas are a nuisance to more than just your family pets. Fleas are just as happy getting the blood they feed on from humans as they are getting it from poor Fido. Flea bites are itchy and can seriously affect your quality of life. Along with this, fleas can carry a wide variety of diseases.
The thing that makes fleas so dangerous is quite simply that they feed on blood. Thus if they happen to bite an animal who is carrying a bloodborne disease, it is possible for the disease to be transmitted to any other animal or person they bite. The worst part of all is that once your house becomes infested with fleas, they can be very hard to get rid of.
Most of us are tempted to try and handle an infestation of fleas on their own, without calling in a professional pest control service. There are several ways you can try to see if they can help you get rid of these nippy little pests.
The problem with most of the over the counter flea treatments, is quite simply that they don’t work as advertised. Most of them claim to be able to eliminate all the fleas in your home in a single treatment. To be sure, most of them will kill off any and all adult fleas quite easily. But, the big problem is that these treatments do NOT kill the millions of eggs and flea larvae the adults have already laid.
So, what happens next, is that all of the eggs hatch and the larvae turn into more biting adults and the cycle simply repeats himself. Before long your flea infestation not only returns but is probably worse than it was in the first place.
If over the counter flea treatments are not really worth the money, then what are you supposed to do to get rid of the fleas permanently? The best thing you can do is to call in a professional pest control service. They know how to find all the places in your home where fleas hide and breed. This allows them to apply the right treatments in these areas and ensure that not only are the adult fleas being killed but so too are the eggs and any larvae that have already hatched.
A professional pest control service can also take the necessary steps to reduce the chances a new infestation of fleas will find its way onto Fido and into your home. While there is no way to permanently banish fleas from your home, it is possible to keep the risk of an infestation to a bare minimum.
